After a mind-blowing time in Rajasthan at the RIFF festival, Andy threw himself into a commission from BBC Scotland’s Travelling Folk to do a tribute in honour of the recently deceased Angus R. Grant.
The result is a masterfully and lovingly mixed arrangement, a brave and bonnie wee musical ode-; both heart-wrenching and tickling, not least due to the use of samples of Angus talking to the audience in his warm and witty manner, and of him reciting a definition of Rant (I think) courtesy of Ewan MacPherson, who also provided the haunting sample of Angus playing in Rajasthan. Also featured, Vincent Price reciting Shelley because. 😉
Angus Grant was hypnotic frontman and master fiddler for Shooglenifty. a superb band of big-hearted musical mavericks who always lovingly embraced Dolphin Boy in many musical adventures over the past few decades.
Angus was a proper human who will be sorely missed, but fiercely celebrated.
Dolphin’s been working away mixing music and has started appearing regularly downstairs at the Argyle Bar again.
These sets are a more laid-back (often ending in some joyous dancing, clientele – depending ) on Friday but this weekend he’s sharing the bill with the craicing Trad-Trance band Sketch on Saturday instead!
It’s not a massive venue, so let’s make sure the tickets sell out. ..
On Sunday Dolphin Boy will be part of the worthy and wonderful Soundhouse Fundraiser, which has a marvellous line-up of quali’y artists; See link……
